Hakone Beer Koyurugi Brown

Hakone Beer, a local craft beer producer in Odawara, Kanagawa, is offering a special brown ale "Koyurugi Brown" for the September to November. The brown color is supposed to go well with the fall leaves. Koyurugi is a frequently used local name used by many local businesses. This beer is 550 yen per each 330 ml can - not exactly cheap. 箱根ビール、こゆるぎブラウン

Photo - Youki Chicken Stock

This is labeled for use with Chinese cooking. In Japanese it is labeled gara soup ガラスープ, which is short for torigara soup 鶏ガラスープ or chicken soup stock. The label looks like it could be a product of China, but the only company noted is the Japanese distributor.

Meiji Dorea Frozen or Refrigerated

This follows up on the earlier discussion on Meiji Dorea Frozen Dessert. This illustration show the changes that occur with time in the refrigerator. It also applies three Japanese words to each stage:
Frozen - hinyari ひんやり - pleasantly cold
After 30 minutes in refrigerator - shittori しっとり - moist
After 90 minutes in refrigerator - funwari ふんわり - fluffy

Photo - Meiji Oishii Gyunyu 3 Keys to Good Taste

Meiji lists the 3 keys to good taste as 1) selecting the best quality milk possible, 2) patented process, the Natural Taste Method, to eliminate off flavors by removing the oxygen prior to pasteurization (2 patents listed), and 3) verifying the good taste using expert panels before the milk leaves the factory. 明治おいしい牛乳

Meiji Dorea Frozen Chocolate Dessert

Meiji's new frozen chocolate sweet can be easily confused with an ice cream, but the website is quick to emphasize it is not. The white filling is not ice cream, but a slightly whipped rare or fresh cream, and this is covered with a thick layer of rare chocolate. The product is frozen like ice cream, but advertising explains that it can (and has been developed to) be eaten 3 different ways for 3 different taste experiences - it can be eaten fully frozen, or it can be eaten 30 minutes after being moved to the refrigerator or it can be eaten 90 minutes or more after being moved to the refrigerator. The product melts or defrosts gradually over the first 90 minutes and not much afterwards. This melting or defrosting affects the flavor, which gives the customer something to test and is seen as a selling point. Interesting concept. 明治、ドレア
