Kirin claims its Tanrei W Beer (the W comes from the word double) is the world's first beer to have cut the level of purine by 99% (Japanese patent No. 3720935). This is desirable because elevated levels of purine are associated with gout. The other feature of this beer (which makes 2 or a double benefit), is the presence of polyphenols from wine extract. The wine extract is also said to improve the taste.
